Recently, a handwritten letter from a best friends of mine during school days with whom I wasn't in contact for the last 9-10 years has made my (many) days. Why was this so surprising? In today's technology world, I expected meeting with my old friends or receive request or message from them on social networking sites like Facebook. I was really happy. Really!
Inspired by that incident, I am sharing some of my ideas to make someone's day.
There are many things that make our day. Here are some practical and not-so-hard-to-do ways to make someone's day.

There are many things that make our day. Here are some practical and not-so-hard-to-do ways to make someone's day.
Smile: Smile is universal language that everyone understands. Whenever you have something good to say about somebody and don't know how, just smile! There is saying that it takes 43 muscles to frown but only 17 to smile. So, smile is good for self and may make your day as well.
Compliment: Make compliment. But make sure that your compliment be genuine. When you see someone wearing that perfect fitting dress, approach and tell. Try to make unexpected and surprising compliments, often about small things or incidents that other person might not have thought.
Thank: We are certain to thank someone who helps us to carry that heavy bag to the bus station. We also thank someone who shows us the way to the new cinema hall. But when it comes making someone's day, the deal always should not be big. Let's try something different (but you might have been doing these)

- Thank the waiter at the restaurant for serving you.
- Thank receptionist for letting his/her boss about you (your arrival) or thank the person who introduced you to other person(s).
- Thank the person who repaired your computer or TV despite knowing that you will pay for his/her service. etc.
Act of kindness: Help an elderly person cross the road. When someone is in difficult situation, offer to help whatever you can. Help someone pick and arrange those documents dropped in the middle of the way. Your genuine interest and kind act will sure make the other person feel grateful to you.
Old memories: If you have that prize winning debate competition video of your friend or photo with your friend taken during your school days, send him/her a copy. Anyone would love to remember or see those old good moments.
These are just some examples. Practically there are many of them. What about you? What makes your day? What do you do to make someone's day?
